In Reading Boots Episode 059, you will learn a fun after reading strategy called Author Fan Mail. After reading a favorite book aloud, you and your child will write a fan letter to the author. First, brainstorm ideas with your child. Ask your child what they liked about the book or what they would want to tell the author. Discuss the format of a letter, then begin writing the letter. Once the letter is complete, search for the author’s address, address the envelope and send the letter on its way. The author may write back. Reading the letter aloud to your child is a great follow up activity.

Writing a fan mail letter after reading a book creates discussion and an authentic purpose for writing. Your child will enjoy writing a letter to a favorite author!
