In Reading Boots Episode 052, I’m getting down to the basics on background knowledge. Background knowledge is the knowledge that people gather from life experiences. For children, this knowledge plays a large role in understanding books that are read aloud or read independently.

You can help boost your child’s background knowledge by making connections between your child’s personal experiences and the books that you read. This is called making a self to text connection. Your child will love making personal connections to the stories you read aloud!
